I think smoking is a social concern and it would be nice if it just dissapears. Not so easy to quit. I've been smoking for about 10 years, i was able to quit for 15 months two years ago, but started again since i thought it's okay to do it sometimes again lol, now smoking again 20 cigarettes a day. How did i quit for 15 months? Tried all the possible methods, but then my mother gave me a book Allen Carr's Easy Method To Quit Smoking, it did a little brainwash and i just didn't want to smoke anymore, it was very easy at this time. About 2 months ago i was reading the same book again, but somehow didn't work so well. I am planing to read it again soon :D

Do you smoke?

Did you quit?

- How?

What do you think about smoking (other people) as being non-smoker yourself, does it influence you?

I tested smoking when I was young to do like others but it was during a short period and I stopped and never smoke again.

Still, I have some members in my family who are smoking. Considering the cigarettes prices that become higher and higher in my country to dissuade people from smoking, there is part of population who end up stopping smoking.

But it's not difficult to find another solution to buy cigarettes at discount prices :

  • Buying cigarettes abroad where there are less taxes
  • Buying directly online

Usually I try to make them aware of what they could do with money spent for cigarettes in 1 year - A nice trip for example. Unfortunately, some people can't pay for a trip or go on holidays because a good part of their monthly budget goes to buy cigarettes. It's really a good motivation for people who like travelling.

I know also some people who adopted the electronic cigarette. Stopping smoking brutally is not wise. You can't lose hard habits during years in a matter of months.

I don't smoke. I never liked the smell of cigarettes. None of my family smokes either. 2 of my siblings used to smoke but they already quit.

Here in the Philippines, our government set a high tax for liquor and cigarettes. In addition to that, cigarette companies are required by law to put government warning signs on the packaging.

i quit totally without the intermediate phases of reducing the number of cigarettes etc.

honestly it was easier than expected, i don't think i'll start smoking again...

nowadays i don't feel uncomfortable with people smoking, my wife occasionally smokes, my mother smokes a lot so i still live in foggy houses  :P

Nice to hear from all of you that you don't smoke, gives me more motivation to also quit soon :D

Colaro

It's really not just money, the reason to stop smoking, i think that health comes to the first place ;)

yallit

It's good that you've been away from this crap since beginning! I think it's everywhere now, where government requires warning signs to be covered on the packagings, here in Estonia not exception and in the EU other countries also.

hyipsurvival

I imagine your magic, how you have stopped smoking  Good for you!

Thanks for your feedback mates :)  Have a nice smoke-free weekend ya all :P

similar experience like Colaro

if i remember correctly, it was at the time when i was 14 year old. I was curious at cigarette but no money to buy so i used a paper, wrapped it around and tried to smoke it.

Lol, i didn't like that taste and stop thinking about smoking FOREVER

so my advise for your kids is that Let them experience it but try to give them a BAD experience at it. Then they won't ever consider about smoking anymore

every kids/people who haven't smoked will always be curious and want to try it. No matter how hard we prevent them. So by using some little trick, we might let them quit smoking forever  :D  B)

I smoked (and about 20 cigarettes per day) for 20 years until 35. Few days after my birthday, I reflected that had more years of smoking than non-smokers, so I decided to get my life of non-smoker and not smoke again.
My recipe: Firstly a strong decision and then a high resistance (not return to pick up a cigarette, even if it is a party) is required.

I just felt completely cured of tobacco addiction 3 years after stopping.
Already passed about 10 years and I feel great!

My experience is a little different.... I grew up in a neighborhood where it was really easy to get Cigs. So was smoking at a young age (Prolly 8 or 9 - horrifying from my perspective, today) ... I smoked into my early 20's where I was hangin' out with my friends and we got into an argument about being addicted.  I had just bought my pack of smokes and if I remember right, My argument was that my friends were all addicted sponges, only too happy to bum my cigarettes. Well, that led to my position that I really could quit anytime I wanted.  It quickly led to me handing a buddy the last pack of cigarettes I've bought to date; and several as yet unpaid bets my bro's would never remember they made.

So, here I am, better than 25 years later; smoke-free. - Don't think I ever really went through a difficult time - sometimes I think about it when I have a cup of coffee.

Still waiting for my pay off.... (Haven't seen those guys in years, They prolly' fraid of me collecting, lol)

sometimes i can be the whole year without even a cigaret.
